Day 3: Sent to Tell

Read: Start by reading John 1:6–7 out loud a few times.

“ There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe” (John 1:6–7 NIV).

Meditate: Is it possible that as Christians in a hurting world, we should also be a witness so that many might believe? As you meditate on this thought, read the verses again replacing the words man, he, and him with woman, she, and her and the name John with your own name.

John’s significant place in time cannot be denied. His birth was a miracle.  The Bible talks about the character of John’s parents Zachariah and Elizabeth in Luke 1:6 (NIV): “Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly.” But even though they were righteous and blameless, they were considered too old to have children (Luke 1:7).

Zachariah was told by the angel Gabriel the life purpose of John, “He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord” (Luke 1:16–17 NIV).

How are we a witness of the Light?

  • Stop and thank Jesus for His salvation.
  • Remember how the salvation message came to you.
  • Pause to worship at His feet.

Notice: As you go about your day, notice how you are a witness to others with your words.

Perhaps sharing your faith is frightening or seems unnatural right now. How can you start simply? Why not drop a sentence into your conversation related to today’s Scripture passage. You might say something like, “We sure need some hope today! I’m so glad that Jesus is the light of the world.”

Being intentional about sharing Jesus opens our lives to opportunities to share the message of salvation with those who are hurting.

Pray: Each time you wash your hands today, pray about your own attitudes. Do you really believe that Jesus is the answer in this hurting world? Ask God to reveal to you any attitude of unbelief. Listen for His answer.
